HSD: You Look Crazy

Come here. Come take a walk with me.

Normally the Holy Spirit leads me with an anecdote/short story to walk us into the message…

But today just isn’t that day.

This post may not be for everyone, and that is okay.

For those who are desperately hungry for Christ and live in full devotion to pleasing Him, feel free to read on…

I need to tell you a secret…

To many who haven’t completely surrendered to Christ…

To many who sit comfortably in lukewarmness…

To many who don’t know Christ at all…

You look plumb crazy.

Make friends with this understanding. Hold hands with it. Cradle it at night. Sing songs to it and place it on the top shelf of expectations when you’re all alone.

This is the unfortunate truth.

To those who haven’t completely surrendered to Christ, you look like “someone who takes Christianity too seriously.”

To those who don’t know Christ at all, you look peculiar and unrelatable.

And to the lukewarm and double-minded—to them with feet planted in both waters, you seem radical and out of alignment with the Will of God.

But I want you to know this…

Keep walking in obedience anyway.

Let me explain something to you.

(I hear you, Holy Spirit. The next post will be on the slow poison of lukewarmness).

Jesus was called a demon-possessed mad man (Mark 3:22) when he attempted to correct others. He disrupted religious order by doing the exact opposite of what everyone had grown comfortable doing. He challenged what everyone believed to be right (Matthew 5:3-12). He even scolded religious authority and sat with sinners (Luke 5:30-32).

But remember He told you this in the same abovementioned scripture, “Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

Long story short…you’re crazy until He proves that you are right.

Continue to deny yourself and thirst after Him.

Continue to be on fire for Him for He has no or limited true fellowship with the cold or lukewarm.

There’s a phrase that is used often that comes to mind in this moment.

(Only further lending credence to the fact that the Holy Spirit is THE funniest person I know. Like ever.)

When people are perceived to be completely out of it or lack soundness in their decision making, some others will look in and call them a “crazy tail.”

Let this be your identifier.

You are the completely surrendered tail following behind Jesus everywhere He goes and in everything He does.

You keep asking Him what His Will is for you each day.

You keep allowing Him to make you the calmest person in the room.

You keep asking Him to correct you every step of the way.

You keep seeking Him in all you do.

You keep thriving in perpetual optimism.

You keep worshipping Him as openly and as often as you feel led to do.

You just keep being you and loving Him as you do.

I am not mad at you…

With your crazy tail, self.

And as always, in everything you do…

Be sure to do it with Love.

Holy Spirit, I thank You for this Word today. Please let it meet the eyes of every person who needs to hear this so that they may be encouraged to move forward and lead others to you with Love. We love You, Lord, and we thank You. In Jesus’ Name to the Glory of the Father, we thank You. Amen.
