DR: Close the Door Then Burn Down the House
“Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth; shall you not know it.” Isaish 43: 18-19
As I was sitting down waiting in my car, I saw the storm clouds begin to form above me. Thunder subtly rolled. A quick flash of lightening illuminated the darkened sky, and my mind began to wander. I began to consider the dream I had the night before about someone with whom my former self had a toxic connection.
Admittedly, it bothered me because I woke up thinking, “what was that about?” I prayed, rebuked and continued about my day. Based on the nature of the dream, I knew the plan of the enemy was quite clear: this was a clear demonic strategy designed to target my marriage and feelings about myself—plain and simple.
So as I waited for my husband to come back to the car with our pizza, I began to think about all the ways the Lord has delivered me from my past, and how much I love my husband.
I then found myself smiling and whispering: “Oh no, no, no Satan. I closed that door then burned down the house. Goodbye.”
I realized in that same moment that this Word was not just for me.
There are some of us who God has delivered from situations that were meant to destroy us in one way or another:
Some habits…
Some idols…
Some desires…
Some people…
And there are so many of us who close the doors on chapters but don’t go the extra mile to seal the cracks, creaks, windows, and error-in-design spaces.
Some of us who leave numbers unblocked…
Who hold on to keepsakes from party days…
Who keep clothing we know we’ve outgrown…
Who still follow people who perpetuate lifestyles we’ve been led to abandon…
Who have yet to completely move on from who they once were…
The Holy Spirit is here to remind us all today,
“And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.” Matthew 5:30
The door you closed on that person, situation, habit, or lifestyle…
The fact that you closed the door is not enough.
The fact that you locked that door is not enough.
The fact that you created barbed wire around that entrance is not enough.
You must burn down the whole house.
Anything God needed you to take from that situation has already been moved out.
Burn it down.
Give the enemy no room.
Done. Dead. End.
That’s it.
