TC: The God of Better

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His Purpose.” (Rom. 8:28)

“I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jer. 29:11)

“Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding and abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us…” (Eph 3:20)

So…

I recently went on a Women’s Retreat with my church family/sisters, and before going on the trip, I decided to leave all problems behind. Throughout the trip’s duration, I intentionally focused on staying present and connecting in meaningful ways.

I laughed.

I cried (healthy tears).

And I rested, though I didn’t sleep much.

Long story shortened, the weekend was so eventful that I didn’t have too much time to reflect with God at length about each experience.

I knew that. I could feel that.

When I finally got back home, I was super sleepy, and I went straight to bed that night.

However, I woke up a couple of times throughout the night. My son needed me, and though I missed him after being away, I was tired and frustrated.

Finally, I decided to sit up and talk to God.

And boy, did we talk.

I hadn’t realized until afterward that I really wanted to sleep to escape all the thoughts I wasn’t quite ready to process and all the issues I wasn’t quite ready to confront.

I want to submit something to you:

If you leaned into God’s character and understood Him more as a person, you would find that everything He does is for us as a loving Father. Everything. And it’s all for our very best.

“Have you been so long with Him and you still don’t know Him?” (John 14:9)

He didn’t wake me up last night because He just had the power to do so and didn’t care about my desire to sleep.

He’s not a merciless, power-hungry tyrant. That’s not who He is.

He is meek and lowly in heart (Matt 11:29)

He woke me up because He cared more about the quality of my rest than I had the ambition to fight for.

I would’ve slept with the weight of unaddressed concerns and allowed myself to wake up to an anxious mind.

My Dad said, “No, wake up now and give me what’s on your mind so you can sleep better. I’ll make sure you get the sleep you want by affording your mind the rest it needs.”

Our Dad. Our Father in Heaven loves us so much. Everything He does is to make sure we get better than we are affording ourselves.

All His thoughts toward us are better thoughts.

Even down to the smallest things.

I love Him so much, but He loves us all so much more.

Next time things aren’t going your way, stop and ask God what He is working on making better this time.

You’ll find in no time what He was doing all along.

I love you.

Make sure you are leading with Love.
